NIOS is an Open Schooling system initiative by Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India taken in 1989. It was initially an effort by CBSE, which was collectively been launched and implemented as NOS (National Open School). The NIOS was been changed to NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling) in 2012. The primary objective of it was to provide flexible access to quality education and skill development through open and distant learning to every section of society.
